Building Youngest U.S. Fleet
in Industry

New aircraft delivery plans pave the way for American Airlines to have the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleet among U.S. airline peers in approximately five years.

Landmark Agreement with Boeing and Airbus

American continues to focus on transforming our fleet and delivering state- of- the-art amenities to you. In order to achieve this goal, we plan to replace and transform our entire narrowbody fleet by acquiring 460 state-of-the-art aircraft, which would make this aircraft order the largest in aviation history, including plans to:

  • Introduce 130 Airbus A319 and A321 aircraft beginning in 2013.
  • Add 130 aircraft from the A320neo Family beginning in 2017 which feature the New Engine Option, a next-generation technology that offers even greater fuel efficiency than today's models. American would become the first U.S. network airline to deploy this new technology.
  • Add 100 Boeing 737 NG family aircraft, with anticipated delivery beginning in 2013
  • Add 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with anticipated delivery to start in 2018
  • New orders are in addition to the 130 Boeing 737-800s that American has already received to replace its MD-80 fleet.

Improved Features

With these modern, new aircraft come several unique features designed to provide a more contemporary and innovative travel experience including:

  • Enhanced lighting options
  • Additional overhead bin space
  • A modern, contemporary atmosphere
  • Improved environmental footprint with greater fuel efficiency and reduced noise

Other Fleet Renewal Efforts In Progress

These new agreements are in addition to American's other anticipated fleet orders and renewal efforts underway including:

  • 10 Boeing 777-300ER widebody aircraft planned for delivery beginning in November 2012 through 2013
  • Six 777-200 widebody aircraft planned for delivery in 2014 through 2016
  • 42 state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliners anticipated for arrival beginning in late 2014

We are excited about the renewal efforts underway and we look forward to continuing to provide you updates on our fleet as well as Admirals Club® facility refurbishments, expanded mobile solutions and inflight entertainment and productivity options.
